The Basics:
The King's Players is a drama group at King's University College at UWO. We meet every Thursday for theatre fun including sketches, improv and other drama games. The group produces several variety shows and 24-Hour theatre specials each year as well as a Main Production.
Who are our members?
Our members come from all faculties at King's with a small handful joining us from main campus and the other affiliate colleges. Some are actors, singers, or dancers - - others have no experience at all.
In-House Shows:
King's Players produces numerous in-house shows throughout the year. Admission to those shows is included in your membership, but non-members are also welcome to attend by paying admission. Examples:
- 24 Hour Theatre - players meet on a Friday evening at 8:00 pm and have 24 hours to write, memorize, block, find props, produce, and at the end of 24 hours perform a show at 8:00 pm Saturday.
- Variety Show - Players gear up to showcase their sketches and talents in a showcase format. Acts include comic sketches, dramatic readings, muscial acts, dance, and more!
- Improv Insanity - A special "whose line is it anyway" inspired show. A selected group of our improv actors join together to think on their feet and entertain an audience.
- Annual Video Scavenger Hunt - Players are divided into teams and are given a list of possible activites to film. At the end of the hunt, teams gather to watch eachothers videos and determine a winner. Great fun!
Main Productions:
The annual main production is a staple of the King's Players season. Preparation and rehearsal is on a much longer timeline than the In-House shows and demands a great deal of commitment from participants - - but the result is worth it! Auditions for the main productions take place in September. Positions are open in all areas from actors to orchestra to tech.
Membership:
Membership in the King's Players is $20 for the season and includes a t-shirt and season pass to all In-House shows. You can register for membership at Clubs Week or at a Weekly Meeting. Not sure if you want to join? You can come out to your first meeting free on us to see if it's for you!
